AUBURN, Ala. - The top-ranked Auburn equestrian team (4-0) defeated Delaware State (2-4) on Saturday at the Auburn Equestrian Center. The Tigers defeated the Hornets 8-2 in Hunt Seat and 9-0 in Western.
"When you come off these breaks, you worry about the team's attitude and being the No. 1 and how they're going to react to that," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "They rode solid, just amazing rides on both the Hunt Seat and Western. Nobody let their guard down at all today; they went after every single point. We're ready to enter the spring season."
Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences 4-1 behind MVP Chelsea Anheuser, who defeated Ashley Butler 83-65. Other Tiger winners included Katie Breedlove over Caroline Foltz 76-73, Dottie Grubb over Elizabeth Frayser Tuttle 79-70 and Elise Fraza over Kayleigh Karnbach 79-69.
Hornet winners include Kamerra Brown over Annie Loar 74-70.
Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat 4-1 behind MVP Katie Breedlove, who defeated Kayleigh Karnbach 82-75. Other Tiger winners included Anna Schierholz over Ashley Butler 83-76, Rebecca Rifkin over Kamerra Brown 81-63 and Grace Socha over Elizabeth Frayser Tuttle 83-70.
Hornet winners include Caroline Foltz over Liza Luker 70-68.
Auburn won Western Horsemanship 4-0 behind MVP Jessica Jones, who defeated Amanda Hotz 73.5-72.5. Other Tiger winners included Shannon Hinton over Maile McCrory 72.5-72, Courtney Kobak over Morgan Scuse 73-71.5 and Sarah Whitaker over Jennifer Pierson 74-68.5. Tying with a score of 70 were Auburn's Anna Beck and Delaware State's Brittni Collins.
Auburn swept Western Reining 5-0 behind MVP Paige Monfore, who defeated Morgan Scuse 75.5-70.5. Other Tiger winners included Mary-Elyse Winchester over Jennifer Pierson 71-69, Courtney Tidmore over Amanda Hotz 73-0 (0 refers to a no score because of a penalty), Kim Pope over Alicia Maynard 72-70 and Kelsey George over Brittni Collins 72-68.5.
Auburn returns to action against conference rival South Carolina Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. CT at the Auburn Equestrian Center.
