LEXINGTON, Ky. - The 2009 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships began on Friday with the women's pentathlon and the opening day of the men's heptathlon. Auburn had one participant entered in each event.

In the pentathlon, freshman Chelsey Thomas, competing for the first time this season, finished 11th with 3,404 points, which ranks fifth best in Auburn indoor history. Thomas placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.80), tied for sixth in the high jump (5-3.25), eighth in the shot put (34-10.5), ninth in the 800 meters (2:36.00) and 16th in the long jump (15-10.25). She will also compete in the high jump on Sunday.

In the heptathlon, junior Jager Livingston set personal bests in three of the four events contested, and currently stands in 12th place with 2,650 points. His best finish came in the shot put, where he placed sixth with a personal-best mark of 12.16 meters (39-10.75). He also had three personal bests in the high jump, leaping 1.85 meters (6-0.75), and a personal best of 7.43 seconds in the 60 meters. The final three events in the heptathlon will take place on Saturday.

The rest of the Auburn track and field teams begin competition on Saturday. Field events begin at 11 a.m. ET while track events take place starting at 2:10 p.m. ET.
