STATESBORO, Ga. - The Auburn men's golf team jumped seven spots from 16th to finish ninth after firing a 1-under final round 287 for an 882 in the 18-team Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational Sunday at the par 72, 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club.
Senior Glenn Northcutt finished 10th with a 72-215 to finish at 1-under for the tournament, six shots behind medalist Matt Hill (69-209) of North Carolina State. Junior Cole Moreland fired a 5-under 67 to finish in a tie for 20th at 2-over 218. Freshman Kyle Kopsick tied for 26th with a 73-219 while freshman Jonathan Fly tied for 81st with a 75-231 and freshman John Stembridge tied for 90th at 78-235.
"I am extremely pleased with the way our group of guys came together in the final round," said Auburn head coach Mike Griffin. "We jumped seven very good teams, and I hope we can build on this round for the rest of the season. Cole Moreland had an outstanding day of golf while Glenn had a quality top 10 finish."
No. 16 South Carolina won the team title with a 286-865, two shots ahead of No. 14 North Carolina State (285-867) and No. 15 Tennessee (287-867). Second round co-leader and No. 9 Florida fell to a tie for fourth with a 291-870 and finished ahead of Kentucky (291-875), Georgia Southern (292-876), North Carolina (293-879), No. 21 Ole Miss (293-881), Auburn (287-882) and North Florida (297-884) to round out the top 10.
Virginia finished 11th with a 295-885 followed by Vanderbilt (296-886), No. 18 LSU (298-886), Iowa (293-889), Georgia State (300-892), Oklahoma (306-896), Augusta State (309-900) and Notre Dame (303-912).
The Tigers return to action at the Bank of America Intercollegiate April 6-7 at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.
