AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn's track and field teams concluded competition at this weekend's Last Chance qualifiers, with two distance runners competing Saturday at Notre Dame in an attempt to earn spots at the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend.
Junior Felix Kiboiywo ran in the men's mile, finishing second with a time of 4:00.89. His time improved on his season-best mark of 4:01.42, and would jump him up to 19th place on the national performance list entering the weekend. He has already earned a spot at the NCAA indoor meet as part of the men's distance medley relay, but must wait until Monday to find out if he will make the cut in the mile.
Also competing Saturday was freshman Girma Mecheso, who ran in the 3,000 meters. Mecheso clocked a time of 8:06.24, which did not improve on his season-best time of 8:04.04.
The participants for the NCAA Indoor Championships will be announced on Monday. The championship meet will take place March 13-14 in College Station, Texas.
