Nov. 22, 2009

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Auburn diving team finished competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational Sunday at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center.

The Tigers competed on the 10-meter platform for the first time this season and saw solid results. Senior Kelly Marx finished second with a NCAA Zone qualifying score of 421.35 points. On the women's side, sophomore Vennie Dantin also picked up a second-place finish with a Zone score of 257.20.

"Very happy for Kelly because whenever an athlete can score over 400 points on the platform, it is very exceptional," Jeff Shaffer, head diving coach, said. "Vennie had a great day as and finished with two well-executed dives."

Freshman Thad Ellis also competed on the platform for Auburn. Ellis took sixth with a score of 277.35.

"Overall, it was a great two days for the team to come out here and compete," Shaffer said. "I'm happy with everyone's performance."

The Tigers return to competition as the swimming and diving team heads to Austin, Texas, for the three-day Texas Invitational, Dec. 3-5.
