Dover, Del. - The top-ranked Auburn equestrian team (6-1) continued their successful road trip defeating Delaware State (0-3) 12-8 on Sunday. The Tigers defeated the Hornets 7-3 in Hunt Seat and tied 5-5 in Western. Auburn defeated Sacred Heart 14-2 on Saturday in Bethany, Conn.
"We had good rides today and picked up three of the MVPs today," said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. "I'm very proud of our girls, but I've also got to give a lot of credit to Delaware State. They're one of the newer programs on the scene, and their talent level has increased rapidly. They put on one of the best away meets we've ever been to."
Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences 4-1 behind MVP Lindsay Portela, who defeated E. Frayser Tuttle 80-79. Other Tiger winners included Dottie Grubb over Kamerra Brown 80-0 (0 refers to a no score because of a penalty), Katie Breedlove over Caroline Foltz 56-55 and Chelsea Anheuser over Kayleigh Karnbach 81-78. Hornet winners include Kayla Blair over Anna Becker 78-77.
Auburn won Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat 3-2 behind MVP Grace Socha, who defeated Kayla Blair 75-69. Other Tiger winners included Maggie McAlary over Caroline Foltz 71-69 and Elise Fraza over Tuttle 67-66. Hornet winners included Kamerra Brown over Anna Schierholz 68-66 and Ashley Butler over Rachel Cooper 63-60.
Auburn won Western Horsemanship 3-2. Delaware State's Morgan Scuse earned MVP honors defeating Jessica Jones 75-71. Other Hornet winners include Jennifer Pierson over Anna Beck 72.5-67. Tiger winners included Kristin Hansen over Brittni Collins 72-67, Indy Roper over MacKenzie Trueba 71.5-68.5 and Kylie Miller over Amanda Hotz 72-71.5.
Delaware State won Western Reining 3-2. Auburn's Jillian Fuller earned MVP honors defeating Morgan Scuse 69-66. Other Tiger winners include Shannon Hinton over Alicia Maynard 65.5-64. Hornet winners included Amanda Hotz over Kelsey George 67-65.5, Breann Huyett over Kim Pope 69-68.5 and Brittni Collins over Paige Monfore 60.5-60.
Auburn travels to Bishop, Ga., to face No. 2 and conference rival Georgia Nov. 13.
