Dantin Wins Three-Meter On Day Two Of Christmas Diving Classic

AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore Vennie Dantin took the three-meter springboard title to lead the Auburn divers on day two of the three-day Christmas Diving Classic at the University of Alabama. Six other Tigers took part in competition on the day.

Dantin, of Conroe, Texas, finished the morning preliminaries with a leading score of 299.40. She went on to take first in the finals with a Zone qualifying score of 342.90. Sophomore Anna Aguero also competed in the finals and took fifth-place with 271.25 points.

Representing Auburn in the three-meter consolation finals were sophomore Mary Catherine Cochran and freshman Laura Russell. Cochran recorded a personal-best score of 279.50, just .5 points away from qualifying for Zones. Russell also recorded a career-best and finished with 263.55 points.

Taking part in the one-meter springboard competition were Kelly Marx, Thad Ellis and Adam Godzinski. Marx came away with a third-place finish with a score of 345.00, while Ellis finished sixth (289.85) and Godzinski took seventh (274.00).

"We saw very solid performances on the women's side of competition today," head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "We're looking forward to tomorrow and finishing the meet strong."

The Christmas Diving Classic concludes Saturday with the 10-meter platform competition.
