AUBURN - Troy went 13-of-25 from 3-point range, mostly behind Brandon Hazzard's game-high 28 points and 7-of-10 three-point shooting, to slip by Auburn 81-77 in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Friday. DeWayne Reed led Auburn with 18 points while Frankie Sullivan added 16 points, Tay Waller 12 points and Lucas Hargrove 12 points and nine rebounds.

Auburn (4-4) was down as much as eight at 63-55 with 11:02 to play and finally regained the lead at 74-73 on a Sullivan drive and dish to Brendon Knox with 1:46 left. Troy (5-3) then scored seven straight points.

"In a game like that, it's all about shooting the basketball," Lebo said. "They shot very well, and we couldn"t hit the broad side of a barn, and that was basically the difference in the game. We had 20 more shots than they did without a discrepancy on the foul line. When you get the ball 20 more times than your opponent, you would think that you are going to win the game.

"We had 10 turnovers in the game, and we couldn"t make any shots. Hazzard was terrific and (Michael) Vogler was outstanding. (Antywan) Jones came into the game not shooting too well, and he went 3-of-4 from the 3-point line. They were good offensively tonight."

Vogler answered with a layup to give the Trojans the lead for good 23 seconds later. After a Sullivan missed trey, Hazzard scored on a fastbreak layup with 1:04 left. Following a Reed turnover and missed Troy free throw, Sullivan missed a game-tying 3-pointer with 28 seconds to go. Two more Hazzard free throws, a Hargrove missed trey and a Vernon Taylor foul shot gave Troy an 80-74 lead with 11 seconds remaining. Sullivan nailed a 3-pointer with 4 seconds on the clock, but Trayce Macon split a pair of free throws to clinch it for Troy.

Auburn led by as much as six points at 25-19 on an Andre Malone layup with 7:54 before halftime. Troy committed 15 first half turnovers but still led 40-38 at the half behind 8-of-15 shooting from 3-point range. Vogler added 14 points for Troy while Mississippi State transfer Richard Delk had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Troy shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the field, 52.0 percent from 3-point range and 10-of-16 (.625) from the free throw line. Auburn went 39.2 percent (29-of-74) from the field, 25.8 percent (8-of-31) from 3-point range and 11-of-17 (.647) from the foul line.

Knox added nine points and five rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench for the Tigers.
