AUBURN-Auburn University Athletic Department coaches, administrators and staff members will be trading a day in the office for a day of community service in Auburn and Opelika on Monday, April 27.
Nearly 200 athletic department staff members are expected to participate in the inaugural "Tigers Give Back" community service day.
Athletic Director Jay Jacobs said the department decided it was time to give back and support Auburn student-athletes who frequently reach out through community service.
"Our student-athletes have made a commitment to community service one of their top priorities, so the least we could do as a department is roll up our sleeves and do our part as well," Jacobs said. "We also feel a responsibility to give back to Auburn and Opelika as a way to thank them for many ways they support our student-athletes."
Athletic staff members will fan out to agencies such as the Boys & Girls Club of Lee County and the East Alabama Food Bank, local schools, nursing homes and other agencies for the day of community service.
