Auburn Golf In Sixth After 36 Holes At The Hootie At Bulls Bay

March 29, 2010

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Auburn men's golf team (280-571) dropped into sixth place, five strokes off leader LSU, after shooting 4-under in Monday's second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Charleston, S.C.

Sophomore Kyle Kopsick (68-139) leads the Tigers in a tie for fifth followed by sophomore Will McCurdy (70-140) tied for eighth. Senior Cole Moreland (71-146) and sophomore David Zicker (71-146) are tied for 34th, followed by sophomore John Stembridge (71-149) in 51st.

"It's not too often that you find the top eight teams in a tournament only separated by six strokes after 36 holes of golf," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "Aside from a couple of team who shot unbelievable rounds, we held our own. Kyle (Kopsick) and Will (McCurdy) are continuing to impress with their form this spring.

"Cole (Moreland and Daived (Zickler) were very big for us today. They both put yesterday's numbers behind them and helped us stay in reach of the leaders. Tomorrow will be a very interesting day."

A victory for either Kopsick or McCurdy would mark their second medalist honors of the season while McCurdy aims for his fifth straight top-10 finish.

LSU (278-576) leads after 36 holes followed by South Carolina (272-568), Virginia (274-569), Duke (281-570), Wake Forest (281-570), Auburn, Clemson (278-572), No. 3 Augusta State (270-572), Chattanooga (277-577), NC State (286-577), Kentucky (283-582), ETSU (284-585), UCF (286-593), Long Beach State (297-604) and College of Charleston (299-613).
