AUBURN - The 2010 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships began Thursday in Knoxville, Tenn., with the opening day of the men's decathlon and the women's haptathlon. The Auburn track and field teams had just one competitor, with senior Jager Livingston participating in the decathlon.
Livingston finished the opening day in eighth place with 3,563 points, but is in position to move up as the second day of competition is his strongest. In fact, Livingston stood in 10th place after the opening day at last year's SEC outdoor meet, with 3,281 points, before eventually finishing fourth.
Livingston had personal bests in each of the day's first four events, including the 100 meters (11.44), long jump (21-4.75), shot put (38-10.5) and high jump (6-3.25), before finishing the 400 meters in 50.84 seconds. He is on pace to eclipse his career best in the decathlon of 6,628 points.
Competition at the SEC Championships continues through Sunday. Friday's competition will include the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon, finals in four additional events and preliminary rounds in six others.
