COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 6-ranked Auburn women's golf team carded a 9-over-par 297 Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Fall Preview to move into a tie for 10th place. Senior Cydney Clanton was the co-leader for the Tigers with a 1-over 73, dropping to a tie for 10th in the 93-player field.
Hosted by Texas A&M, the NCAA Fall Preview is a 54-hole tournament being played at the par-72, 6,271-yard Traditions Club at Texas A&M, the site of the 2011 NCAA Championship. The three-day tournament features nine teams ranked in the GolfWorld top-10 and 17 ranked in the top-25.
"We did not have a great team performance today," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "Haley Wilson had a better day and we saw a lot of improvement from her, and Cydney Clanton stayed in the heat of it. We are all looking forward to improving tomorrow and having a better outing to finish the tournament."
The Southeastern Conference again finished the day with four of the top five spots in the field, this time with Alabama leading the way with a 10-under-par 566. LSU is in second place with a 6-under 283, followed by Southern California in third at 5-under 571. Georgia and Vanderbilt round out the top five with 2-under-par 574s.
In a tie for sixth place are Duke and UCLA with 4-over 280s while Tulane is in eighth with a 14-over-par 590. Virginia is in ninth place with a 15-over 591 with Auburn and Purdue wrapping up the top 10 with 17-over 593s.
Individually, Alabama's Brooke Pancake and Vanderbilt's Marina Alex are in a tie for first with 6-under-par 138s. LSU's Tessa Teachman is in third with a 5-under 139, leading a pack of six players in a tie for fourth with 4-under 140s.
Clanton and Wilson posted the top individual performances of the day for Auburn, carding 1-over-par 73s. Calnton is currently tied for 10th at 3-under 141 while Wilson is tied for 42nd with a 5-over 149.
After carding a second-round 76, senior Karlin Beck is in a tie for 54th with a 7-over 151 with junior Patricia Sanz just one stroke behind her in a tie for 62nd with a tournament-total 77-75--152. Freshman Diana Fernandez rounds out the Auburn lineup, carding a 79 to finish the day in a tie for 72nd with a 12-over 156.
Final-round action in the NCAA Fall Preview continues at 7:30 a.m. CT, Wednesday with tee times off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Auburn will start the day at 7:39 a.m. off the No. 10 tee, playing alongside defending NCAA Champion Purdue and Wake Forest.
