NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Three Tigers carded rounds at even-par or better Saturday during the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship, giving No. 6 Auburn an even-par 288 to move into 12th place with a 6-over 582.
Senior Cydney Clanton led the way with a 3-under-par 69, followed by junior Haley Wilson with a 2-under 70. Junior Patricia Sanz rounded out the trio with an even-par 72.
"We looked better today, had some very good rounds out of the whole team," said Evans. "I saw a lot of improvement, but we are still working hard for that big breakthrough round."
Hosted by Vanderbilt, the Mason Rudolph Championship is a 54-hole tournament being played at the par-72, 6,281-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course, the site of the 2012 NCAA Championship. The three-day tournament features eight teams ranked in the GolfWorld top-10 and 16 ranked in the top-25.
After 36 holes of play, Clanton is in the top 10 as her second-round 69 propelled her into a tie for 10th with a 3-under 141. The Concord, N.C., native posted six birdies against three bogeys during Saturday's round. Wilson carded five birdies on the day, moving into a tie for 20th with her 2-under 70, giving her a 2-under 142 for the tournament.
Sanz rebounded from her first-round 75 to post an even-par 72 on Saturday. She is currently in a tie for 47th with a 3-over-par 147.
Rounding out the Auburn lineup are freshman Diana Fernandez and senior Karlin Beck, ranking tied for 69th and tied for 77th, respectively, after carding 5-over 77s. Fernandez holds am 8-over 152 heading into the final round while Beck is three strokes behind with an 11-over 155.
Also competing for Auburn is freshman Marta Sanz. The Madrid, Spain native carded a 4-over 76 in the second round to finish the day tied for 63rd with a 6-over 150.
Individually, California's Pia Halbig and Wake Forest's Michelle Shin are tied for first with 9-under-par 135s. Purdue's Maude-Aimee LeBlanc is in third with an 8-under 136, followed by Alabama's Brooke Pancake (-7) and Georgia's Marta Silva (-6).
In the team race, LSU is in first with a 16-under-par 560, sitting one stroke ahead of defending NCAA champion Purdue. California is in third with a 13-under 563 while Georgia and Wake Forest are tied for fourth at 6-under-par.
Action in Sunday's final round is set to begin at 7:35 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Auburn will tee off No. 10 beginning at 7:43 a.m., playing alongside Duke and Florida. Fans can follow all the action with live scoring at www.GolfStat.com.
