LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Auburn soccer played to a second straight draw on Sunday afternoon, tying Kentucky 1-1 in Lexington. The tie places Auburn's record at 9-5-2, 3-3-2 SEC while Kentucky is now 8-6-2, 2-4-2 SEC.

"The good news is we didn't lose; the bad news is we didn't win," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "We controlled the majority of possession and we had good looks throughout the game but right now we need someone to step up and score goals. We don't have that person right now and that's been the difference in us not winning these two games."

In what was a very physical match that saw a total of 45 fouls called, including a season-high 25 on Auburn, Auburn was able to draw 15 corners while limiting Kentucky to just one but the shots were almost identical with Auburn getting 15 and Kentucky 14.

Kentucky's Caitlin Landis put Kentucky up 1-0 in the 54th minute when she rifled in a shot for her sixth goal of the season. Landis took just one touch before taking her shot, ripping it inside the left post from 18 yards out.

Auburn had a chance to get the equalizer in the 63rd minute as Katy Frierson chipped in a free kick to Julie King in the box but her shot attempt was nullified by Kentucky goalkeeper Sydney Hiance, who finished the match with four saves.

Ana Cate's second goal of the season tied the match at 1-1 in the 73rd minute as she finished off a Mary Coffed cross that Hiance could not corral along the end line. Coffed, who tied Frierson for the team lead with nine assists on the year, took the ball down to the end line, a step outside the 18.

Each team took five shots in the first half and was able to put two on frame, with Frierson taking one following a Heather Havron corner and Jessica Rightmer taking one from the top of the 18 for Auburn.

Auburn's scoreless first half marked the fifth straight match in which Auburn could not score in the first 45 minutes.

Auburn returns home for its next match, playing host to Tennessee at 7pm CT on Thursday, Oct. 21.

The Student Tailgate Challenge will take place at the match where Auburn student organizations will compete in a tailgating competition to win Spirit Points, an Auburn pop-up tent and a Gas Grill.
