TULSA, Okla. - Junior Alex Stamchev and sophomore Tim Hewitt concluded competition Wednesday at the 2010 D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships on the campus of University of Tulsa.
Stamchev opened the day in singles play, competing in the Men's Singles Qualifying Draw. The Pleven, Bulgaria, product faced Pepperdine's Finn Tearney in the third round of the draw and fell in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.
"Alex (Stamchev) played well today despite the outcome," head coach Eric Shore said. "He had his chances, but came up just short against a very solid player from Pepperdine."
Stamchev paired up with Hewitt in doubles play and took on the duo of Matt Allare and Shuhei Uzawa from Ohio State in the third round of the Men's Doubles Qualifying Draw. The Auburn pair battled the Buckeyes, but fell 8-5.
"I'm happy with our doubles play despite losing today," Shore said. "Tim (Hewitt) continues to grow into a much stronger doubles player this season and that is very promising to see. We're looking forward to having a solid two weeks of practice before our upcoming tournament."
Up next for the Tigers is the three-day ITA Southern Regional, Oct. 22-24, held on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
