Equestrian downs Delaware State 15-4

AUBURN, Ala. -- The Auburn equestrian team defeated Delaware State 15-4 Friday, taking all four events and two MVPs.

Auburn (4-0) remained undefeated as Delaware State fell to 0-2. The Hornets lost to Fresno State 14-4 Friday morning.

"We had a solid win today, but so did Fresno State against the same school," said head coach Greg Williams. "The meet with Fresno tomorrow should see Auburn riders pushing more on a few rides."

In western horsemanship, the Tigers were led by MVP Indy Roper, who defeated Jennifer Pierson 72.5-66. Other Auburn winners included Bailey Dymond over Shelby Bonneville 72-71.5 and Chelsea Zillner over Brittany Good 71.5-70.

Auburn won equitation on the flat 4-1 with high scores from junior Grace Socha and freshman Christina Lin. Socha defeated Ashley Butler 82-67, Lin defeated Caroline Foltz 79-72, Rachel Cooper defeated Kayla Blair 75-74 and Elise Fraza defeated Kelly Harper 72-65.

The Tigers won western reining 4-0, and Auburn winners included Cassandra Stambuk over Victoria Keen 70-67, Jillian Fuller over Amanda Hotz 73-72, Kristin Hansen over Shelby Bonneville 72-70 and Paige Monfore over Mackenzie Trueba 68-59. Lydia Hinshaw and Alicia Maynard tied with a score of 74.5.

The Tigers took equitation over fences 4-1 behind MVP Anna Schierholz, who defeated Erin Engard 90-72. Other Auburn winners included Grace Socha over Frayser Tuttle 88-85, Elise Fraza over Caroline Foltz 64-50 and Anna Becker over Amanda Hotz 75-71.

Auburn returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. for a match-up with Fresno State at the Auburn University Horse Center.
