ATLANTA, Ga. - Redshirt senior Dan Mazzaferro captured the platform title on the final day of the Georgia Tech Invitational Sunday in Atlanta. Auburn's Vennie Dantin, Anna Aguero, Thad Ellis and John Santeiu IV also represented the Tigers during the day's platform competition.
"This meet was very important for the group," head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "It gave us an opportunity to get the feel for the championship season and it will help us mentally and physically prepare for what is ahead. It was a very strong competition and it was very rewarding to see the progress we are making."
Mazzaferro, a Cheshire, Conn., product, finished first with 386.30 points. His preliminary score of 402.75 was a season-best and the top score entering the finals. Ellis, a sophomore from Atlanta, finished fourth in the event with a score of 352.00 after tallying a preliminary score of 352.35. Santeiu, a freshman from Dearborn Heights, Mich., took eighth on the platform with 281.40 points. His score of 281.60 in the prelims was a season-best score.
On the women's side of competition, Dantin took fifth on the platform with a score of 262.65 after finishing with 256.25 points in the preliminaries. Aguero took ninth in the event with 205.95 points.
The Auburn swimming and diving team returns to competition, Dec. 3-5, as the squad takes part in the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.
