PALO ALTO, Calif. - Auburn senior Cydney Clanton carded a 2-under-par 69 Saturday in the second round of the Pac 10/SEC Challenge, moving herself to second place while keeping the Tigers in a tie for second. No. 16 Auburn finished the day tied for second with Alabama at 7-over-par 575.

Hosted by Stanford, the inaugural Pac 10/SEC Challenge is a 54-hole tournament being played at the par-71, 6,103-yard Stanford Golf Course. The three-day tournament features seven teams ranked in the GolfWorld top-10 and 14 ranked in the top-25.

"We did not have the kind of day I was hoping for today, but it was good enough to keep us in the thick of things," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "I saw some really nice things and some improvement in some areas for the first day, but we are not finished yet.

"Cydney had another very nice round today. She is hitting the ball well and was able to make some timely shots."

Clanton, a native of concord, N.C., posted two bogeys in her first five holes Saturday, but went bogey-free the rest of the day with four birdies to come in with her 2-under 69. Combined with her first-round 68, Clanton is in second place with a 5-under-par 137, one stroke behind Vanderbilt's Marina Alex.

She is one of three Tigers currently ranked in the top 20 as sophomore Carlie Yadloczky and junior Patricia Sanz are tied for 17th and 20th, respectively.

After making the turn at 2-over, Yadloczky rebounded on the back with a pair of birdies to finish at even-par 71. She currently sits in a tie for 17th with a 1-over 144. Patricia Sanz, who carded an even-par 71 in the first round, followed up with a 3-over 74 in the second round to tie for 20th with a 3-over-par 145.

Also competing for the Tigers are freshman Marta Sanz and junior Haley Wilson. Sanz carded a 76, finishing the day in a tie for 49th with an 8-over 150. Wilson finished just two strokes behind her, carding a 75 to tie for 60th with a 10-over 152.

Heading into Sunday's final round, UCLA leads the team race with a 2-under-par 566. Auburn and Alabama trail in a tie for second at 7-over 575 while Arizona (578) and California (581) round out the top five.

Individually, Vanderbilt's Marina Alex is in the lead with a 6-under 136, but Clanton is right on her heels in second place with a 5-under 137. California's Joanne Lee (138) and Georgia's Marta Silva (139) finished the day in third and fourth, respectively, while Arizona's Isabelle Boineau, UCLA's Stephanie Kono, Southern California's Sophia Popov and UCLA's Glory Yang tied for fifth with 2-under 140s.
