WILMER, Texas - The No. 3 Auburn equestrian team defeated SMU Sunday, winning 6-4 at Buck Branch Farm in Wilmer, Texas.
Auburn's hunt seat riders completed a sweep of their three away meets and remained undefeated on the season.
"Even with large shifts in the lineup throughout the whole weekend, the hunt seat riders continue to win," said head coach Greg Williams. "They are not only riding well, but also riding with a passion regardless of their draw or circumstances."
In equitation on the flat, Auburn (6-2) won 4-1, led by senior MVP Ali Loprete. Winners included Christina Lin over Kate Wilson 77-70, Loprete over Julianna Fischer 82-75.5, Maggie McAlary over Danielle Gersh 80-75 and Grace Socha over Morgan Toal 76-75. Lindsay Portela tied opponent Renick Townsend with a score of 72.
In equitation over fences, the Mustangs defeated the Tigers 3-2. Auburn winners included Anna Schierholz over Lucy Blundon 80-77 and Grace Socha over Mallory Olson 81-65. Christina Lin tied opponent Marissa Djernes with a score of 80.
The team returns to action Friday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. against conference rival Georgia at the Auburn University Horse Center.
