BATON ROUGE, La. - Redshirt senior Dan Mazzaferro and junior Vennie Dantin capped off a successful week of competition for the Auburn diving team as they captured titles on the platform Sunday at the LSU Diving Invitational at the LSU Natatorium.
"Competition went very well today and we saw some solid performances," head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Overall, it was a good week of training and competition. We saw the areas we need to work on and the team should be very confident going into championship season."
Mazzaferro earned his second title of the meet, taking first on the platform with a score of 461.75. Freshman John Santeiu IV also competed in the event and came in second with 346.70 points.
Dantin took first on the women's side of competition, tallying a season-best score of 303.35 points. Classmate Anna Aguero finished second overall and recorded a season-best score with 265.60 points.
The divers travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Tennessee Diving Invitational, Jan. 3-5. The entire squad returns to competition as rival Texas comes to Auburn in January. The Auburn women face the Longhorns on Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. and the men take on the defending national champion Longhorns Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. Both meets will be held at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
