No. 3 Women's Golf Takes 12th Place Finish at Bryan National Collegiate

April 4, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The third-ranked Auburn women's golf team claimed 12th place at the Bryan National Collegiate after a third-round score of 300. The team finished with a tournament-total 36-over par 900 to close out the regular season.

The Bryan National Collegiate was co-hosted by North Carolina-Greensboro and Wake Forest and took place at the par-72, 6,323-yard Players Course at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center.

"The numbers were not there and the placement on the scoreboard was not there, but we really had a great tournament," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "We had a lot of improvement this week. You look at your starters who were there for us and maybe you don't see it on the scoreboard, but we really had a solid week."

Auburn was playing without its top two players as senior Candace Schepperle and junior Cydney Clanton traveled to Rancho Mirage, Calif., to participate in the LPGA's Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Leading the way for the Tigers was freshman Carlie Yadloczky, who continued her solid play and finished her final round with a 1-over 73. The Casselberry, Fla., native was facing a 3-over round until the final two holes, but posted back-to-back birdies to end at 1-over and secure an eighth-place finish. Yadloczky carded a tournament-total 1-over par 217, setting a new 54-hole season-low score for the freshman.

"Carlie really stepped up this weekend and got a top-10 finish," Evans said of Yadloczky. "She had a chance to win it and she really played well. I was happy for her and proud of her play this weekend."

Finishing the weekend in a tie for 26th was sophomore Haley Wilson, who managed to improve her score again and post a 1-over 73 in the final round of action. Wilson, who started the three-day tournament with a 76, tallied a second-round of 74 before dropping her score again to close out the weekend with a 223 (+7) tournament-total.

The Tigers' third-best score of the final day came from sophomore Patricia Sanz's 4-over par 76. Sanz also lowered her score in three-consecutive rounds, finishing with a 17-over 233 mark. The Madrid, Spain, native finished in a tie for 67th.

"Haley and Patricia each got better every day and really played well for us," Evans said. "Haley put together a great weekend and Patricia made some solid improvements in her game."

Rounding out the Auburn scorecard for the third round was Madison Overbey, who carded a tournament-low 5-over 78 to finish out the weekend. Her tournament-total of 248 landed the sophomore in 93rd.

After carded rounds of 73 and 76, redshirt junior Karlin Beck dropped a final-round 80 to finish the tournament in a tie for 54th with a 13-over 229.

"It was a great experience for us and I think our players gained some valuable experience," Evans said. "All in all, we played with a lot of consistency, getting better after the first day and that's important. We did a lot of great things that are going to pay off for us."

Taking the top team honors was Florida State with a 9-over par 873. Co-host Wake Forest followed with an 874 (+10), while Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Duke rounded out the top-five with 22-over par 886s.

Individually, Wake Forest's Cheyenne Woods held the lead to take the top-spot with a 5-under 211 weekend performance. Tennessee's Nathalie Mansson (-3), Virginia's Brittany Altomare (-2), Duke's Lindy Duncan (-2) and Florida State's Macarena Silva (-1) rounded out the top-five, respectively.

The tournament marks the end of the regular season for the Tigers as Auburn returns to action April 16-18 at the SEC Tournament. The Tigers will attempt to defend their conference title at the North River Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

"We will give the girls a few days off because they have a lot of studying to do and need to catch up on their rest," Evans said. "We have to prepare for that golf course and be ready to play hard."
