Women's Golf In 14th Heading Into Final Round At Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Auburn junior Haley Wilson carded a 2-over-par 74 Monday in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, leading the Tigers to a 22-over 310. Auburn finished the day in sole possession of 14th place with a 47-over 623.

Hosted by Purdue University, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic is a three-day, 72-hole stroke play event being held at the Rio Mar Beach Resort. The par-72 Greg Norman-designed River Course will play at 6,191 yards for the tournament.

"It was another tough day for us out there, but we are working through some of the things you want to accomplish this time of year," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "On the bright side, we had another good round out of Haley Wilson today. I'm very pleased with what I have seen from her so far."

With her second-round 74, Wilson moved up into a tie for 16th in the 98-player field with a 6-over 150. She will enter Tuesday's second round just seven strokes out of first place.

Behind Wilson were senior Karlin Beck and junior Patricia Sanz with a par of 6-over 78s. They finished the day in a tie for 50th with 13-over 157s. Freshman Diana Fernandez enters the final round in a tie for 70th with a 15-over 159 after her second-round 80. Rounding out the Auburn lineup is freshman Cydney Clanton in a tie for 82nd with an 18-over 162. She carded an 83 in Monday's second round.

Freshman Marta Sanz is competing in the tournament as an individual. She is currently tied for 35th after her second-round 81 gave her a 13 over 155 for the tournament.

In the team race, Alabama is still on top with an 8-over 584. Iowa State carded a second-round 293, the low round of the day, and enters the final round in second with a 17-over 593. Florida State is in third with a 22-over 598, followed by host Purdue in fourth with a 26-over 602, Georgia rounds out the top five with a 34-over-par 610.

Individually, Texas Tech's Gabriella Dominguez and Alabama's Stephanie Meadow are in the lead with 1-under-par 143s. Florida State's Maria Salinas and Georgia's Marta Silva are in a tied for third with even-par 144s while Iowa State's Sasikarn On-Iam rounds out the top five with a 1-over 145.
