SAN DIEGO - All five Tigers carded rounds in the 70s Tuesday, helping the Auburn women's golf team to a final-round 5-over 293 and a fifth-place finish at the Battle at Rancho Bernardo with a 41-over-par 905. Senior Cydney Clanton led the Tigers individually, finishing the tournament in a tie for fourth place with a 2-over 218.

Played for the first time, the Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn was a 54-hole stroke play tournament played on the Championship Golf Course at Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa. The par 72 course played at 6,336 yards for the tournament.

"We have been getting very close here lately, and today we were able to put together a good team round and finish strong with a nice score," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "It was good to see everyone contribute to the team score and we really did some nice things out here that we can build off of."

Clanton, a native of Concord, N.C., was down as low as 4-under par at one point Tuesday, but a double-bogey on the par-3 No. 13 set her back. She was able to regroup and finish her day with a 1-under 71, moving into a tie for fourth at 2-over 218.

"Cydney had a really good day today and it was good to see her do that," said Evans. "She had a couple holes on the back nine that got her, but outside of those it was a great round."

Patricia Sanz was a stroke behind Clanton on the day, finishing with an even-par 72. She moved up 12 places in the standings to finish in a tie for 20th with a 9-over 225. Just four strokes behind her was fellow junior Haley Wilson in a tie for 34th with a 13-over 229. She carded a final-round 74 to move up 12 spots in the standings.

Rounding out the Auburn lineup was Carlie Yadloczky and Karlin Beck with final-round 76s. Yadloczky finished the tournament in a tie for 51st with a 16-over 233 while Beck finished in a tie for 71st with a 25-over 241.

Freshman Marta Sanz competed as an individual in the tournament, finishing in a tie for 38th. She carded a final-round 78 to finish with a 14-over 230.

Individually, Purdue's Laura Gonzalez took medalist honors with a 7-under 209. She had a six-stroke lead of UNLV's Therese Koelbaek and Southern California's Lizette Salas, who finished in a tie for second with 1-under 215s. Clanton and Giulia Molinaro rounded out the top five in a tie for fourth at 2-over 218.

In the team race, defending NCAA champion Purdue won the title with a 15-over 879. Southern California finished second at 22-over 886 while UCLA finished third with a 23-over 887. Georgia carded the low final round, a 1-over 289, to move up to fourth place with a 39-over 903. Auburn rounded out the top five with a 41-over 905.

The Tigers will return to action April 1-3 at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga. The event is the final regular-season tournament for Auburn with the Southeastern Conference Tournament slated for April 15-17 in Auburn, Ala.
