ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 20/21 Auburn women's golf team carded a 9-over-par 297 Saturday at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., placing the Tigers in a tie for eighth with Wake Forest at 15-over 591. Auburn is just 14 strokes out of the lead heading into Sunday's final round.

The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is a 54-hole stroke play tournament being played on the University of Georgia Golf Course. The par 72 course is playing at 6,335 yards for the tournament. The Classic is using a "best ball" team format, with the low four individual scores from each hole comprising the team's counting score as the day progresses. Traditionally, the low four rounds at the end of the day are added together to determine the team score.

"The course played pretty tough today, scores were up across the board, but I think we handled it alright," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "We are not out of it, there are a lot of teams within striking distance at the top of the leaderboard. We just have to talk about some things tonight and come back out here to work tomorrow."

All five Tigers carded between a 76 and 78 in the second round with junior Patricia Sanz leading the way with a 4-over 76, finishing the day in a tie for 31st at 9-over 153. Fellow junior Haley Wilson is the overall team leader, carding a second-round 78 to finish the day in a tie for 19th with a 7-over 151.

Sophomore Carlie Yadloczky, senior Karlin Beck and freshman Marta Sanz all carded 5-over 77s in the second round. Yadloczky enters the final round in a tie for 39th with a 10-over 154 while Beck and Sanz are tied for 51st with 11-over 155s.

Freshman Diana Fernandez, who is competing this weekend as an individual, posted a second-round 79 and enters Sunday's final round in a tie for 92nd at 16-over 160.

In the team race, Alabama currently holds the lead with a 1-over 577 while defending NCAA champion Purdue is second with a 5-over 581. Host Georgia is in third with a 9-over 585, followed by Duke in fourth with an 11-over 587. Notre Dame carded the low round of the day, a 2-under 286, to move into fifth place at 12-over 588.

Individually, Purdue's Numa Gulyanamitta is in the lead with an even-par 144. Georgia's Marta Silva and Arkansas' Emily Tubert are in a tie for second with 1-over 145s. Alabama's Stephanie Maedow is in fourth with a 2-over 146 while Isabelle Lendl (Florida), Amy Meier (Ohio State), Brooke Pancake (Alabama) and Hannah Thomson (Florida State) are in a four-way tie for fifth with 3-over 147s.
