COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 15/18 Auburn women's golf team got its 2011-12 season off to a good start Sunday as the Tigers carded an 8-over 296 to take a first round lead at the "Mo" Morial Tournament. Junior Carlie Yadloczky is tied for the first-round lead with a 2-under 70.

Hosted by Texas A&M, the "Mo" Morial is a 54-hole stroke play tournament being played on the Championship Golf Course at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. The par 72 course is playing at 6,260 yards for the tournament. The Tigers are one of five nationally-ranked teams in the 11-team tournament.

"Today was a good day and we are off to a start that we needed to have," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "But, now they know their way around the course better, and so does everyone else. We just have to keep being patient and take this thing day by day. We are definitely not counting anything yet."

Four Tigers are currently in the top-15 in the 68-player tournament. Yadloczky and Kentucky's Ashleigh Albrecht are tied for the lead at 2-under 70. Sophomore Marta Sanz is tied for sixth with a 2-over 74 while senior Patricia Sanz and freshman Victoria Trapani are tied for 14th with 4-over 76s.

Senior Haley Wilson rounds out the Auburn lineup, tied for 46th with a first-round 81. Freshman Nicole Quinn is also competing this week, playing as an individual. She is tied for 10th with a first-round 75.

"Carlie had a really nice round today, you could just tell from the very first shot that she was going to play well," said Evans. "I was also pleased with the freshmen. They left a lot out there, but you could see so much with them. They are both very talented and you can see how much they are going to get better over the years."

The golf course played tough on Sunday with an average individual score of 79.04. The Traditions Club is just four months removed from hosting the 2011 NCAA Women's Golf Championship.

"It is a good golf course, not your normal course that you would see back home," said Evans. "You have to be very patient and play it. It is a championship course and is set up just like it was for NCAAs last year."

Auburn leads the pack with an 8-over 296, followed by Texas and Kentucky with 11-over 299s. Florida State is fourth with a 21-over 309 while host Texas A&M is fifth with a 23-over 311.

Action in the "Mo" Morial is set to resume at 8 a.m., Monday with tee times off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Auburn will play in the final tee times of the day off No. 1. Fans can follow all the action with live scoring at www.GolfStat.com.
