Auburn Runners Receive SEC Weekly Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sophomore Elizabeth Briasco and freshman Niklas Buhner have been honored with SEC weekly cross country awards as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Briasco, a Forest Hills, N.Y. native, was named the SEC Women's Runner of the Week as she posted her second consecutive top-two finish with a second-place showing at the Auburn Invitational. She set a new collegiate personal-best in the 4K with a time of 14:42.80, finishing second among a field of 97 competitors.

Her efforts helped her team to a third-place finish at the Auburn Invitational.

Appearing for Auburn cross country for the first time, Buhner captured the 6K Auburn Invitational in a time of 18:54.40, leading his team to a first-place finish. The Germany native finished nearly 28 seconds ahead of the second-place competitor, winning the individual crown in a field of 54 participants.

For his efforts he was named the SEC Men's Freshman Runner of the Week.

Auburn Cross Country is back in action on September 23 at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
