OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - The ninth-ranked Auburn men's golf team (293-578) closed Saturday's second round of the Olympia Fields Intercollegiate at 13-over and in third place, trailing only No. 12 Stanford (282-559) and No. 2 Oklahoma State (288-570) at the Olympia Fields Golf Club.
Rounding out the top five are No. 5 Texas 290-579) in fourth followed by a two-way tie for fifth between No. 3 Alabama (298-583) and Florida State (294-583).
"We played a solid round today and maintained our spot in tomorrow's final pairing but didn't get the separation from the rest of the pack we may have wanted heading into the final round," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "We have to stay focused on ourselves and come out tomorrow with another strong team round."
All five Tigers enter Sunday's final round in the top 20, led by senior Will McCurdy (72-143) and junior Blayne Barber (73-143) each tied for ninth at 3-over par.
Junior Dominic Bozzelli (74-146), sophomore Niclas Carlsson (74-146) and freshman Michael Johnson (74-146) are tied for 19th at 6-over.
No. 22 Augusta State (292-585) is in seventh at 12-over followed by Indiana (299-587), No. 13 Illinois (299-588), No. 7 Florida (299-589), Notre Dame (297-589), No. 20 Ohio State (304-589), No. 8 Duke (303-595), Arizona State (310-600) and Northwestern (313-612).
Stanford's Cameron Wilson (67-136) holds the individual lead at 4-under par.
The Tigers tee off in Sunday's final pairing, going off the front nine at 9:20 a.m. CT with Stanford and Oklahoma State.
