VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. - The top-ranked Auburn men's golf team (285-577) finished Monday's second round of the Jerry Pate National in sixth place, shooting a 5-over afternoon round at the Old Overton Golf Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
Senior Will McCurdy (72-142) leads the Tigers in a tie for 12th, followed by sophomore Niclas Carlsson (72-147) tied for 30th, juniors Michael Hebert (71-148) and Blayne Barber (78-148) tied for 33rd and freshman Michael Johnson (70-149) tied for 39th.
"We just didn't hit the shots or make the putts we needed to today," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "Will played solid all day with a few mistakes in the afternoon. You never want to count a 7-over like we did in the first round. We need to learn from the mistakes we made today and finish with a strong round tomorrow."
No. 7 Texas (278-549) stormed out of the gates on Monday, taking a 15 stroke lead on the field. No. 12 Clemson (287-864) is in second followed by No. 5 Alabama (284-865), UAB (282-575) and UNLV (292-576), Auburn, Arizona (286-579), Middle Tennessee State (292-581), Mississippi State (281-585), SMU (286-586), Samford (283-592) and Louisville (294-601).
Clemson's Corbin Mills (69-134) and Texas' Jordan Speith (69-134) are tied for the individual lead at 6-under par.
The Tigers tee off the front nine at 8:00 a.m. CT with UNLV and UAB. Complete tee times and live scoring will be made available via www.Golfstat.com.
