AUBURN - The Auburn equestrian team defeated TCU 14-6 at the Auburn University Horse Center on Saturday.
"This was a great win, specifically on the Western side as TCU has always been one of the more dominant Western teams in the sport," head coach Greg Williams said. "We continue to mirror how we do in practice so I'm happy about that."
The Tigers won three of four events while earning MVP honors in Equitation Over Fences, Horsemanship and Reining.
Stephanie Rucci defeated Katie Gray 77-75 in Reining, but lost to Courtney Chown 77.5-77.0 in Horsemanship. Indy Roper defeated Carrie Schimpff, 72.5-66, in Reining while earning MVP honors in Horsemanship with a 77.5-73 win over Kate Peterson.
The Tiger swept Equitation Over Fences, led by MVP Christina Lin, who defeated Caitlin Ader 66-44. On the Flat, Maggie McAlary defeated Caitlin Ader, 88-81 and Anna Becker defeated Emily Maloof, 75-52.
Freshmen Katsy Leeman defeated Lyndsi Hardin, 72-70.5, in Horsemanship while Morgan Burns was barely edged by Kolby Simonson, 70.5-71.
"The freshmen are proving that last week against UT-Martin was not a fluke," Williams said. "Right now we are as solid as I hoped we would be."
The Tigers are home again next week as they will host South Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. (CT).
