Victoria Trapani In The Lead After 36 Holes At Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Auburn freshman Victoria Trapani carded a 1-over 73 in the second round of the Landfall Tradition, taking the individual overall lead with a 1-over 145. The No. 3/5 Tigers are in second place after 36 holes with a 33-over 609, just two strokes behind leader Purdue (607).

Hosted by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, the Landfall Tradition is a 54-hole stroke play tournament being played at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The par-72 course will play at 6,208 yards for the tournament. Six of the 18 teams in the tournament field are ranked in the top 25.

Trapani, a freshman from Hollywood, Fla., was 3-over at one point in the round, but finished with birdies on the final two holes to finish the day at 1-over 73. She came from a stroke behind to take a three-stroke lead at the end of the day with a 1-over 145.

Senior Patricia Sanz carded two birdies for the round, moving up four places to finish tied for ninth at 76-76--152. Marta Sanz came in next behind her sister, posting a 7-over 79 to finish the day in a tie for 33rd at 157.

"Victoria and Patricia both played tough today and were able to finish strong," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "Victoria stayed focused and consistent all day, while Patricia was able to birdie her last two holes."

In a tie for 43rd is Carlie Yadloczky with 73-85--158, while freshman Nicole Quinn finished tied for 57th with 76-84--160 to round out the Auburn lineup.

"We had a tough round today," said Evans. "The wind and the cold weather took a lot out of us, but we were able to hang in there."

Purdue ended the day in the lead with 31-over 607, followed by Auburn at 33-over 609. Duke finished the day in third at 41-over 617, while Ohio State and North Carolina are tied for fourth with 43-over 619s.

Individually, Auburn's Trapani is in the lead at 1-over 145, followed Purdue's Paula Reto and Laura Gonzalez at 148 and 149, respectively. Tied for fourth are North Carolina's Casey Grice, Iowa State's Sasikarn On-lam, Michigan State's Caroline Powers and North Carolina State's Vivian Tsui with 6-over 150s.

Play will resume at the Landfall Tradition tomorrow with a 7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start. Auburn will start on Nos. 1-3, playing with Purdue and Duke. Fans can follow along with live stats at www.GolfStat.com.
