No. 16 Auburn Women's Golf In Fourth With 18 To Go At Tar Heel

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 16 Auburn women's golf team remained in fourth place after the second round of the Tar Heel Invitational, carding a 2-over 290 for a two-day total 1-over 577. Auburn enters Sunday's final round just eight strokes out of the lead.

Hosted by the University of North Carolina, the Tar Heel Invitational is a 54-hole stroke play tournament being played on the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. The par-72 course is playing at 6,285 yards for the tournament. The 18-team tournament includes 12 teams ranked in the top 25.

Sophomore Marta Sanz held on to her fourth-place tie at 5-under 139, carding a second-round 70. Junior Carlie Yadloczky and Senior Haley Wilson finished the day in a tie for 17th with 1-over 145s. Yadloczky posted a 1-over 73 on the day while Wilson came in at even-par 72.

"Marta had six birdies today, but lost a few strokes here and there," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "I thought she played better today than what her score reflected, she's just continuing to play solid."

Freshmen Victoria Trapani and Nicole Quinn rounded out the squad. Trapani carded a 75 to finish the day tied for 39th at 1-over 148 while Quinn posted a 78 to tie for 66th with an 8-over 152.

"We played better on some of the more difficult holes today, but we didn't get as sharp of a start as I would have liked," said Evans. "We are playing consistent though which is so important to a young team like ours."

Alabama and LSU are tied for the lead with 7-under 569s, followed by host North Carolina in third at an even-par of 576. Auburn remains in fourth at 1-over 577 while North Carolina State is fifth at 4-over 580.

Individually, Alabama's Hannah Collier is in the lead at 9-under 135, followed by Michigan State's Caroline Powers in second with 7-under 137 and LSU's Madeline Sagstrom at 6-under 138 in third. Auburn's Marta Sanz is tied for fourth with North Carolina State's Augusta James, Alabama's Brook Pancake and Wake Forest's Cheyenne Woods, carding 5-under 139s.

Action in the Tar Heel Invitational is set to resume around 8:15 a.m. CT, Sunday with a shotgun start. Fans can follow all the action with live scoring at www.GolfStat.com.
