MURRELL'S INLET, S.C. - The eighth-ranked Auburn men's golf team (293-890) placed third at the General Hackler Collegiate held Sunday and Monday at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrell's Inlet, S.C.
"We played better today and made more birdies," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "We still struggled with making too many high numbers, but overall we were better. We are already looking forward to defending our title at the Schenkel this weekend."
Sophomore Michael Hebert (74-222) earned his fifth top-10 finish of the season, tying for 10th to lead the Tigers at 6-over. Sophomore Blayne Barber (73-223) tied for 13th for his sixth top-15 of the year. Freshman Niclas Carlsson (72-225) and junior Kyle Kopsick (74-225) tied for 19th followed by junior Will McCurdy (84-237) in 59th.
No. 15 Augusta State (281-878) claimed the team title followed by No. 18 Virginia (298-881), Auburn, Tennessee (299-893), Pepperdine (299-897), host Coastal Carolina (310-904), East Carolina (306-905), North Florida (304-908), Lamar (307-915), ETSU (316-916), College of Charleston (315-922), Wake Forest (307-929), USC-Upstate (319-938), Charleston Southern (312-940), Wake Forest (307-929), Charleston Southern (312-940), Presbyterian (319-954), Gardner-Webb (324-971) and Western Carolina (326-979).
Augusta State's Henrik Norlander (87-210) earned medalist honors followed by Virginia's Amory Davis (72-214) in second.
The Tigers return to action Friday as they defend their 2010 team title at the Chris Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
