MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - With snow falling for most of the day, the scoring inside WVU Coliseum was equally as chilly as No. 13 Auburn Gymnastics scored a season-low 193.650 on Sunday afternoon and finished third in the quad-meet.
"I'm disappointed with the overall performance, but in one end I'm happy that vault is coming around and happy that we got Petrina back out there," Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. "I just felt like we didn't show up mentally for this meet. I was happy with Lexus and Brittany today. They both got put in a tough position and came through."
Despite struggling for most of the day, Auburn still featured the top individual scorers on uneven bars (Petrina Yokay - 9.900) and floor exercise (Bri Guy - 9.825). Additionally, Guy finished second in the all-around competition with a total score of 39.050.
Ohio State took home the top overall score with 195.450, followed by WVU (195.175), Auburn and Ball State (191.775).
A pair of falls on bars led to the lowest score of the year for Auburn on the apparatus as the Tigers scored just 48.550 despite a season-high tying 9.9 from Yokay and a 9.875 from Allyson Sandusky. Nikki Galluzzo also scored a career-high 9.725 in her first routine of the year.
Sandusky and Yokay again led Auburn on beam, this time with a 9.825 and 9.750, respectively. Auburn recorded a team score on balance beam of 48.275 and stood in third place after two rotations.
Lexus Demers posted a tenth increase from her debut score a week ago with a 9.700 in her second career floor routine. Kylie Shields add a 9.775 and Guy finished with a 9.825, but Auburn scored its lowest of the season on floor with a 47.975.
Auburn closed out Sunday's competition on vault and posted its top event score of the day thanks to solid scoring top to bottom. Toi Garcia led the way with a 9.825 and Guy added a 9.800.
Hope Sloanhoffer of the Mountaineers won the all-around competition with a score of 39.175. Auburn's other all-around competitor, Shields, totaled 37.900.
The Tigers are in action next on Friday when they host No. 3 Florida in SEC action. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Auburn Arena.
