The top-ranked Auburn equestrian team picked up its third loss of the season after falling, 12-6, to No. 5 South Carolina on Saturday in Blythewood, S.C. The Tigers fell to 7-3, while the Gamecocks improved to 5-5 on the season.
"We just made too many mistakes," Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. "We'll just have to pick it up and get back to some drills in practice as we get closer toward SECs and nationals."
Auburn was able to win one event in Equitation over Fences and took home an MVP, courtesy of Maggie McAlary. McAlary defeated Paige Dekko, 90-80, to win one of the Tigers' three points in the event.
Auburn defeated South Carolina, 3-2, in the event, also earning points from Christina Lin and Grace Socha. Lin defeated Kimberly McCormack, 82-81, while Socha defeated Amber Henter, 82-78.
The Tigers fell to the Gamecocks in Equitation on the Flat, 4-1. Auburn's lone point came from McAlary, as she defeated McCormack, 89-70.
South Carolina defeated Auburn in both Western events, winning Horsemanship, 4-1, and Reining, 2-1.
In Horsemanship, the Tigers' point came from Danielle Long who defeated Katie Kopf, 73-70.5, and in Reining, Cheyenne Cracraft defeated Annie Laurie McDonald, 66.5-63.
Auburn returns to action as it travels to Las Cruces, N.M., to take on No. 9 New Mexico State and Fresno State on March 9-10. The meet on Friday, March 10, is set to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
