No. 5/6 Women's Golf In Fifth After First Day At Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 5/6 Auburn women's golf team carded a 13-over 293 in the first day of play at the SunTrust Women's Gator Invitational to put the Tigers in fifth for the round. Senior Haley Wilson is the top Tiger after 18 holes, carding an even-par 70 to tie for fifth.

Hosted by the University of Florida, the SunTrust Women's Gator Invitational is a 54-hole stroke play tournament played at the Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. The par 70 course is playing at 6,004 yards for the tournament.

"We held out pretty good throughout the day and I saw a lot of good things that we can build off of for the next round," head coach Kim Evans said. "This is a tough golf course and we played it well for the first 12 holes or so, but missed some opportunities down the stretch."

Wilson carded the lowest score of the round at an even-par 70 to leave her tied for fifth. She carded a steady 16 pars on the day, along with a birdie and a bogey.

In a tie for 18th are sophomore Marta Sanz and junior Carlie Yadloczky at 3-over 73. Senior Patricia Sanz is tied for 51st at 7-over 77.

Also competing this week is sophomore Diana Fernandez, who is playing as an individual. She carded a 4-over 74 to tie for 28th.

"We are going to re-group tonight and be ready to come out and have a strong round tomorrow," Evans said.

Alabama is in first at 4-over 284, followed by Georgia in second with 6-over 286. In third is Florida State after carding a 10-over 290, with Kentucky in fourth at 11-over 291. Auburn is in fifth at 13-over 293.

Individually, Georgia's Emilie Burger is in first with a 3-under 67, followed by Florida's Camilla Hedberg and Florida State's Maria Salinas in a tie for second at 2-under 68. South Florida's Christina Miller is in fourth with a 1-under 69. In a five-way tie for fifth are Kentucky's Liz Breed, Tennessee-Chattanooga's Jordan Britt, Alabama's Hannah Collier and Brooke Pancake and Auburn's Wilson with even-par 70s.

Tee times will run from 8 - 10:06 a.m. CT off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees, Saturday in Gainesville, Fla. Auburn is set to tee off from 8:45 - 9:21 a.m., playing alongside Kentucky and South Florida. Fans can follow all the action with live scoring at www.GolfStat.com.
