GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 5/6 Auburn women's golf team is in seventh after 36 holes at the SunTrust Women's Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Tigers carded a 300 on the day to finish at 33-over 593 heading into Sunday's final round.
Hosted by the University of Florida, the SunTrust Women's Gator Invitational is a 54-hole stroke play tournament played at the Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. The par 70 course is playing at 6,004 yards for the tournament.
"We had another tough day out there," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "We are making a lot of costly mistakes and it is really hurting us. We are not out of this, but we have to really focus for tomorrow's final round."
Leading Auburn are sophomore Marta Sanz and senior Haley Wilson in a tie for 11th at 5-over 145. Sanz carded a 2-over 72 on the day while Wilson came in with a 5-over 70.
Junior Carlie Yadloczky is tied for 44th with 73-79--152 for the tournament. Tied for 85th is senior Patricia Sanz with 77-84--161. Freshman Victoria Trapani, who's score did not count in Friday's first round, carded a round of 4-over 74.
Auburn sophomore Diana Fernandez is competing as an individual at the event. She carded a 4-over 74 Saturday and is currently tied for 25th with an 8-over 140.
"Hopefully we can put together an Auburn round tomorrow and get back on track," Evans said. "We have 18 holes to go and we need to make them good ones."
In the team race, SEC foes Alabama and Florida are tied for first with 17-over 577s. Georgia is in third after carding a 22-over 582, followed by Florida State in fourth with 23-over 583. In fifth is South Florida at 28-over 588. The host Gators had the low round of the day, a 3-over 283, to move into a tie for the lead.
Individually, South Florida's Christina Miller is in the lead at 4-under 136, followed by Georgia's Emilie Burger with 2-under 138. Florida's Camilla Hedberg is in third with 1-under 139 while Florida State's Maria Salinas is fourth after carding an even-par 140. In a three-way tie for fifth are Alabama's Stephanie Meadow and Brooke Pancake and Arkansas' Emily Tubert with 2-over 142s.
The final round at the SunTrust Women's Gator Invitational will commence at 7:30 a.m. CT, Sunday morning with a shotgun start. Fans can follow all the action with live scoring at www.GolfStat.com.
