AUSTIN - Running for the first time in 2012 on Friday, the Auburn men's 4x100m relay team broke a 35-year-old school record with a mark of 38.95 seconds in the morning prelims at the 2012 Texas Relays.
"Really excited for these guys to come out and put up such a great time early in the morning," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "Nobody runs well in the early morning, so this is great for Auburn. I'm looking for these guys to come out and put up an even better time tomorrow when it is nice and hot out."
Auburn's time of 38.95 seconds on Friday by Marcus Rowland, Harry Adams, Michael DeHaven and Keenan Brock bests the mark of 39.00 set in 1977 by the team of Tony Easley, John Lewter, Willie Smith and former Olympian Harvey Glance. The mark is the top time nationally and in the SEC thus far in the 2012 outdoor season.
Saturday's finals in the Clyde Littlefield 4x100-meter relay are scheduled for 2:05 p.m. on Saturday.
Jeremy Hardy ran the 100 meters in 10.50 seconds, narrowly missing the finals. Stephen Saenz and Marcus Popenfoose have yet to compete in both the shot put and discus.
