AUBURN - No. 62 Auburn women's tennis fell to second-ranked Florida 7-0 on Friday afternoon in SEC action at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Originally slated to be played outdoors, the match was moved to the indoor courts early in doubles play due to rain in the Auburn area. Plamena Kurteva and Taylor Schriemann dropped a hard-fought match at No. 3 doubles via super tie-breaker, 7-3, as Florida took the doubles point.
Sophomore Jackie Kasler and Kurteva both came up short in marathon matches that stretched the overall match over the four-hour mark. Kasler opened with a 6-4 win, but fell 7-6 (7-1) and 10-6 in the final tie-breaker at the fifth line to 42nd-ranked Alexandra Cercone.
Kurteva dropped her match to No. 19 Sofie Oyen 4-6, 5-7 shortly before Kasler's match was completed. At the top spot, newly-ranked No. 118 Jen Pfeifler fell to the nation's top-ranked player Allie Will, 0-6, 1-6.
Auburn is in action next on Sunday when it hosts No. 38 South Carolina at 12 p.m.
