JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Auburn got strong performances from several veterans and a number of younger team members on Friday in the first day of action at the UNF Invitational.
"CeCe did a great job to come out set the tone in the 100 with a new personal best time," Auburn assistant coach Scott Richardson said. "V'alonee jumped nearly 20 feet and that was a great start to the outdoor season for her. We had some good performances today and we are looking forward to another good day tomorrow."
Senior CeCe Williams enjoyed a strong start to her outdoor season on Friday. The Birmingham native set a new PR in the 100 meters with her first place finish in 11.61 seconds in the prelims on Friday afternoon. Teammate Ashley Cruder placed fourth in 11.75 seconds.
In the women's long jump, Auburn placed three women in the top 10, including sophomore V'alonee Robinson in first with a career-best jump of 19-11.5 feet (6.08m). Freshman Halle Green placed fourth with her jump of 19-0.5 feet (5.80m), while Danielle Davis placed 10th with a mark of 18-2.25 feet (5.54m).
Freshman Cameron Holt ran the 100 meters for the first time in his opening outdoor action and qualified for Saturday's finals with his mark of 10.75 seconds. Holt also placed fourth in the long jump with a top mark of 7.14 meters.
Junior Alissa Fisher placed third in the women's 10,000 meters in her first-ever outdoor meet. Fisher crossed the finish line third in 36:44.54. Griffin Jaworski was fifth in the men's 5000m run in a time of 15:20.29, while teammate Jason Miller was eighth with a mark of 15:33.94.
