Marcus Rowland Finishes 8th in U.S. Olympic Trials 200 Meters

July 1, 2012

EUGENE, Ore. - Auburn junior sprinter Marcus Rowland finished eighth in the finals of the 200 meters at the 2012 USATF Olympic Trials at Hayward Field.

"I'm really proud of the way Marcus competed this week," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "It is no small feat to run the 100 and 200 meters and Marcus was able to reach the semifinals and finals. That really says a lot about him as a competitor. These two weeks have been a great learning experience for him and I look forward to seeing what he is able to do in 2013 as a senior."

Rowland's mark of 20.50 seconds was just .02 off his career high of 20.48 run in 2009. The mark is a new season-best for the Spartanburg, S.C. native.

Arkansas alumni Wallace Spearmon finished first in 19.82 seconds, while former FSU runner Maurice Mitchell (20.14) was second and Ole Miss' Isiah Young (20.16) placed third.
