No. 6 Auburn Tied for Eighth After Carpet Capital Collegiate Second Round

DALTON, Ga. - The No. 6 Auburn men's golf team is tied for eighth after shooting a 2-over 290 in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Saturday at The Farm. The Tigers are tied with No. 15 North Florida and trail No. 2 Texas by 24 strokes. The Longhorns set a course record by shooting a 22-under 266 to move all the way from 11th after the first round.

"We played well in spurts, but struggled on No. 18 for the second day in a row," head coach Nick Clinard said. "We need to stay positive, and go have the low final round tomorrow, which we are very capable."

Senior Michael Hebert led the Tigers after firing a 3-under 69 and is tied for 19th at even par with Niclas Carlsson and Blake Soni. Hebert birdied Nos. 4 and 6 but double bogeyed on No. 7 to make the turn at even par. The Orlando, Fla., native birdied No. 12 and had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16.

Soni shot a 72, bogeying No. 7 but rebounding with a birdie on No. 9. On the 13th, the Bradenton, Fla., native birdied, but bogeyed the 18th. Carlsson shot a 76 and was 4-over on the first 10 holes. Carlsson birdied on Nos. 12, 14 and 15 before a triple bogey on the 18th.

Sophomore Michael Johnson is tied for 45th at 5-over after shooting a 3-over while senior Dominic Bozzelli is tied for 62nd at 8-over after a 2-over 72.

The Tigers will tee off Sunday's final round at 7 am CT with Chattanooga and No. 15 North Florida. Live stats for the tournament can be found at www.golfstat.com.
