CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 8 Auburn women's golf team finished its first day of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., tied for 16th with a 23-over 311. Victoria Trapani carded the low round for the Tigers with a 1-over 73.
Hosted by the University of North Carolina, the Tar Heel Invitational is a 54-hole tournament played at the UNC Finley Golf Course. The par 72 course is playing at 6,285 yards for the tournament.
Trapani led Auburn in the first round and is tied for 17th with a 1-over 73. Junior Marta Sanz finished the day tied for 20th, carding a 2-over 74 while senior Carlie Yadloczky and junior Diana Fernandez both carded 10-over 82s and are tied for 89th. Freshman Alex Harrell, in her first career tournament, rounded out the lineup in 92nd with an 11-over 83.
Virginia leads the tournament with a 2-under 286, followed by North Carolina and Baylor who are tied for second with even-par 288s. LSU is in fourth, carding a 6-over 294, and Duke finished the first round carding an 8-over 296 for fifth place.
Individually, Baylor's Hayley Davis is in first with a 5-under 67, and Virginia's Brittany Altomare is in second with a 3-under 69. A four-way tie for third is held among Duke's Laetitia Beck, Virginia's Elizabeth Brightwell, North Carolina's Jackie Chang and Florida's Isabelle Lendl with 2-under 70s.
Play will continue beginning at 7:51 a.m. CT, on Saturday from the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Auburn will tee off No. 10 from 8 - 8:36 a.m. CT, playing alongside Colorado and Michigan. Fans can follow along with live stats posted at www.golfstat.com.
