No. 6 Auburn in Fifth Place at Jerry Pate National

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The No. 6 Auburn men's golf team is in fifth midway through the second round and sophomore Michael Johnson has a three-stroke lead before play was called off due to darkness on Monday at the Jerry Pate National at Old Overton Golf Club.

The Tigers are 18-over par and trail No. 12 Florida by 10 strokes. No. 1 Alabama is in second at 10-over, followed by No. 24 Clemson (+11) and No. 13 UNLV (+14).

"We were not sharp and our seniors have to play better," head coach Nick Clinard said. "They are our leaders each and every week. The golf course is soft and can yield good score if you are patient and understand the game.

"We are looking forward to tomorrow and finishing the second round strong and playing a solid final round with all five guys contributing mentally and physically."

Johnson, who is in first place at 4-under, was tied for first at 2-under after the first round and is currently 2-under after 15 holes in the second round. The Birmingham native leads four players by three strokes.

All-American senior Dominic Bozzelli is tied for 16th at 6-over. Bozzelli shot a 2-over 72 in the first round and is 4-over through 12 holes in the second round. Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy is tied for 20th at 7-over. Mondy is through 12 holes in the second round.

Senior Michael Hebert struggled in the first round of play shooting a 10-over 80, but rebounded nicely in the second round, shooting a 1-over through 12 and tied for 39th.

Redshirt sophomore Dan Stringfellow is tied for 42nd at 12-over. After shooting 10-over in the first round, Stringfellow recovered nicely as he is 2-over through 15 in the second round.

The Tigers will conclude the second round Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. before teeing off the third round at 9:20 a.m. Live stats for the tournament can be found on www.golfstat.com.
