AUBURN - BJ Young scored 25 points and Marshawn Powell added 20 points and nine rebounds for Arkansas as Auburn fell to the Razorbacks 83-75 on Wednesday in Auburn Arena. Chris Denson scored 18 points with five assists to lead 10 Auburn scorers.
Leading by two, Arkansas (15-9, 6-5) went on an 11-4 run to take a 19-10 advantage with 12:30 remaining in the first half. The Razorbacks then went 6:38 without a field goal as Auburn (9-15, 3-8) moved within 22-19 on a 9-2 run with 6:22 to go before halftime.
Noel Johnson sank a 3-pointer and Frankie Sullivan connected on two free throws as the Tigers battled back to knot the game at 24 with five minutes remaining. Josh Wallace tied the game again at 31 on a 3-pointer with 2:25 to go, just his third trey of the season.
Sullivan finished with 11 points as Auburn's other double-digit scorer.
Asauhn Dixon-Tatum followed up an Allen Payne miss with four seconds remaining before halftime to make it 35-33 in favor of Auburn for the Tigers' first lead since it was 2-0 in the opening minutes of the game. Dixon-Tatum had five points, three rebounds and three blocks in 15 minutes off the bench.
Auburn took a 43-42 lead on Dixon-Tatum's free throw with 15:07 remaining in the second half. The Razorbacks then opened up a 17-4 run fueled by 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions by Young, Powell and Mardracus Wade to take a 59-47 lead with 9:20 to go.
The Tigers cut it to 61-56 on two free throws by Jordon Granger with seven minutes left. Auburn stretched the run to 6-0 on an alley-oop dunk by Shaq Johnson from Denson, but Powell answered with a three-point play for Arkansas and a 64-58 advantage with five minutes remaining.
Denson trimmed the lead to six on a free throw, but the Razorbacks responded with consecutive baskets to widen the deficit to 72-62 with 2:30 left. Denson's 3-pointer with 56 seconds remaining made it 76-70.
After an Arkansas layup, Shaq Johnson connected on a 3-pointer for a 78-73 deficit with 37.3 seconds to go. Two free throws by Josh Wallace kept Auburn within five with 22.7 remaining, but another free throw and a dunk by Arkansas in the final seconds ended the threat.
Wade (11 points) and Rickey Scott (11 points) also scored in double-figures for the Razorbacks.
Auburn is in action next on Saturday when it hosts No. 7 Florida at 12:47 p.m. on the SEC Network.
