TUSCALOOSA - 15th-ranked Auburn Gymnastics posted its second-highest score of the season with a total of 196.575 on Friday against No. 5 Alabama in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide scored 197.650.
With the score of 196.575, Auburn has now posted scores of 196.000 or higher in four consecutive meets for the first time since 2009.
The Tigers had a total score of 147.150 after three rotations and needed to record a total of at least 48.850 on their final event to reach the 196 plateau. Auburn responded in a mighty way posting a 49.425, the second-highest balance beam total in school history, led by five season or career best scores.
"We did a great job on beam," Auburn gymnastics head coach Jeff Graba said. "In fact the girls fought all night. This wasn't a great night for us. I thought we started out strong on bars and then we ended up having some glitches along the way. This team fights. I was pretty impressed. They finished extremely strong on beam."
Petrina Yokay led off balance beam with a career high 9.875 and sophomore Caryn Kadous followed with a 9.85 to equal her career high set against Arkansas on February 2. Bri Guy scored a season-best 9.9 and Megan Walker followed with a career-best 9.925 - the top beam score for an Auburn gymnast this season.
Caitlin Atkinson closed out beam for the Tigers with a 9.875 to equal her career high and the team scored 49.425 on the apparatus. The total of 49.425 is the top event score for Auburn this season and ranks third nationally this season.
With her career-high performance on beam, Walker won her fourth event title of the season.
The Tigers started the meet on uneven bars with a 49.000 in the first rotation lead by scores of 9.825 from Walker and Yokay. Guy added a 9.8 as Auburn posted its third highest bars score of 2013.
Guy led the way in the second rotation with a season high and career best tying 9.900 on vault. Atkinson added a 9.875 and Toi Garcia scored 9.85 as Auburn scored a total of 49.200.
The performance by Guy on vault was her ninth career score of 9.9 or higher. She later added the 10th on beam.
Yokay led off the third rotation with a 9.800 in floor exercise. Garcia was docked a tenth for a step out and scored 9.625 to follow a fall by Lexus Demers. In the anchor spot, Brittany Webster tallied a 9.8 and Atkinson followed with a 9.85 and Guy a 9.875 in a strong Auburn finish for a total of 48.950.
Guy has now scored 9.85 or higher on floor in five-straight meets.
