Shearer Posts Three Personal Bests on Day One at SECs

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Auburn freshman decathlete Parker Shearer stands in eighth place with 3,585 points after five events at the 2013 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Missouri at Walton Stadium.

The Mobile native set three personal bests in his first day of conference competition and narrowly missed two more in his first career SEC Outdoor championships.

Shearer placed 10th overall in the first event of the decathlon, the 100 meters. The freshman's personal-best time of 11.68 scored him 715 points in the event.

Next, He placed eighth in the long jump with a top mark of 22-2 (6.76m) to record 757 points. In the third event of day one of competition, the shot put, Shearer recorded a top throw of 40 feet (12.20m) to place eighth overall and set a new personal best.

Shearer finished in third in the high jump with clearance at 6-6 (2.00m). The mark was a new personal best breaking his previous mark of 6-4.75 (1.95m) and totaled him 803 points for the event.

In the final event of the first day of competition, Shearer finished the 400 meters in 52.79 for 691 points. The mark was 10th overall.
