AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn Soccer team fell to Texas A&M Friday night 3-1 at the Auburn Soccer Complex. The Aggies improved to 8-3-1 (3-1 SEC) on the season while Auburn dropped to 4-7-1 (0-4 SEC).
"I thought we came out tonight and played with great energy against a great Texas A&M team," said Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa. "Our offense really came out playing on all cylinders and I was really proud of how they bounced back after last weekend."
Auburn struck first in the match for the early lead and went on to take 13 shots in the match, led by freshman Casie Ramsier who had four shots and an assist.
"We definitely had our chances and opportunities," said Hoppa. "We gave them a quality match and played a very even ballgame until the last few minutes. We played with a lot of energy and a lot of confidence and that is going to help us build moving forward."
After scoring early in the match, the Aggies came back to score even the match in the first 10 minutes. The teams played even until Texas A&M came up with a pair of late goals to secure the win.
Auburn opened the scoring in the fourth minute as Tori Ball received a ball from freshman Casie Ramsier and slotted it past the keeper. Defender Kala Faulkner sent a long pass downfield to Ramsier to set up the scoring opportunity. The goal was Ball's fourth on the season while the assist was Ramsier's third of the year.
Six minutes later, the Aggies equalized off of a goal from Allie Bailey, who received a header from Shea Groom.
The teams were locked at one goal apiece until the sixty-eighth minute, when Leigh Edwards rifled a shot from 25 yards past goalkeeper Alicen Wright. The Aggies would tack on the final goal in the eighty-fifth minute, as Annie Kunz placed the ball into the right corner off of a pass from Groom.
Texas A&M got 10 shots in each half of the match. Auburn tallied five in the first 45 minutes and tried to turn up the pressure on the Aggies with eight in the second half.
Wright got the start in the goal for Auburn and totaled seven saves on the night, setting a new personal best. Jordan Day had four saves for the Aggies.
Auburn will return to action at 12:30 p.m. CT, Sunday as the Tigers travel to SEC foe Florida. Florida (8-3-1, 2-2 SEC) dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to South Carolina Friday night. The match will be televised live on CSS.
