The No. 20 Auburn men's golf team stands in sixth place after the first two rounds of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills. Auburn shot a 281 in the first round to stand in third but then fell back to sixth with a second rounds 295 to finish the day 24 strokes behind leader Alabama.
"We played well the first round but struggled the second," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "We just didn't hit great shots when they were required and we struggled to make putts."
Niclas Carlsson is tied for eighth at the close of the day after shooting a first-round 68 and a second-round 72 for a two-round total of 140, eight strokes behind the leader, Wilson McDonald of UAB (65-67--132). Carlsson carded five birdies in the first round and four in the second, birdieing the 14th and 15th holes in both rounds.
Victor Henum is tied for 20th after shooting 72-73--145. He aced the par-3 12th hole in the first round, Auburn's first hole-in-one of the year, and carded five birdies on the day.
