AUBURN, Ala. -The Auburn women's basketball team (5-3) defeated Tulane (4-3) 62-52 Tuesday night at the Auburn Arena. Five Tigers scored in double figures in the win, the first time for Auburn to do so since last January.
Senior Tyrese Tanner notched her second double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. It was Tanner's third career double-double.
"I thought Tyrese was solid," said Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. "We put her back at the top of the press, and she's great at the top of the press."
Freshman Brandy Montgomery followed Tanner in scoring with 11 points. Montgomery has scored in double figures six out of seven games this season. Junior Hasina Muhammad, sophomore Tra'Cee Tanner and freshman Katie Frerking tallied 10 points each.
For Auburn, it was the first time since its game against Tennessee on Jan. 17, 2013 for five players to score in double figures.
Auburn scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed while picking up its fifth win on the season. Tulane closed the game to three with 16:24 to go in the half, but a 14-2 Tiger run midway through the half put the Green Wave in a hole it would not get out of.
The Tigers led 37-20 at halftime and built their lead to as many as 21 early in the second half, but Tulane didn't back down and made a run of its own late in the game.
The Green wave cut the lead to seven with 5:29 left in the game, thanks in part to 23 second-half free throw attempts. Auburn held the Green Wave off, though, and picked up the 62-52 win.
Tulane was led by Jamie Kaplan with 18 points while Tiffany Dale notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Adesuwa Ebomwonyi pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for Tulane.
After five games away from Auburn Arena, Tuesday night's win was the first of four-straight home games for the Tigers.
"It's nice to finally play at home," Williams-Flournoy said. "Just the comfort of home, with your own fans, makes life a little easier."
Auburn will return to the court on Friday, Dec. 6 as the Tigers take on St. Johns. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Auburn Arena.
