AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 28 Auburn men's tennis team cruised to a pair of 7-0 wins on Sunday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, sweeping both Jacksonville State and Mercer in the Tigers first action of the 2014 dual match season.
Auburn (2-0) opened up Sunday's action with a 7-0 sweep of Jacksonville State (0-1). The Tigers sealed the doubles point quickly with wins from Daniel Cochrane/Petar Tomic in the no. 1 spot and the 37th-ranked duo of Dennis Lengsfeld/Lukas Ollert at no. 2.
"I thought starting outside was good for us, we need outdoor matches and I thought our guys did a pretty good job this afternoon," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "Tonight, our doubles (teams) came out with good energy and singles followed up playing well. It was good start."
Cochrane/Tomic cruised to a 6-2 win over Jacksonville State's Jaryd Reese/Pedro Wagner. The tandem of Lengsfeld and Ollert did not drop a game, winning 6-0 over the Gamecocks' Mathis Chaim/Jeff Wendler-Filho.
The Tigers turned in several dominating performances in singles as to sweep the first five matches in straight sets. Playing his first single match for Auburn, Petar Tomic picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 singles spot, while No. 89 Dante Saleh posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 single position.
No. 112 Daniel Cochrane clinched the win for Auburn with a 6-2, 6-1 win for the Tigers in the No. 1 spot. Oliver Plaskett, playing at No. 6, recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory in his first match for the Tigers.
Joseph Van Dooren battled through a tough three-set match with JSU's Wendler-Filho, but ultimately came out on top 6-2, 3-6, 6-5 (10-8) battling back after dropping the second set. The sophomore fell behind early in the third-set tiebreaker, but recovered to pick up the final three points to earn the win.

The Tigers moved indoors and returned to the floor against Mercer (1-5) on Sunday night, downing the Bears, 7-0. In doubles, the team Plaskett/Saleh recorded a 6-4 victory against Mercer's Austin Emmet and Snaider in the No. 3 spot. Auburn clinched the doubles point behind Lengsfeld/Ollert's 6-1 win over Mercer's Arsav and Arnav Mohanty.
Auburn continued its success in singles from earlier in the day, closing out the day with their second win. Peter Tomic just need 55 minutes to dispatch Mercer's Manuel De Luis 6-0, 6-1. Ollert clinched the match by posting a 6-2, 6-2 win.
89th-ranked Dante Saleh cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Austin Emmet, while No. 112 Daniel Cochrane took down Anderson Scarpa with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday, Jan. 22, with a 2 p.m. home match versus Troy at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Admission is free to all home matches.
